Your Artist Website: Why You Still Need One
Build a professional online home that you control. What to include and how to make it work for you.
In an era of social media profiles and streaming platforms, many artists question whether they need a website. The answer is absolutely yes. Your website is the only space on the internet that you fully control. Social media platforms change their algorithms, terms of service, and features without warning. Your website is permanent, customisable, and entirely yours. It is also the destination that industry professionals expect when they Google your name.
Keep your website simple and focused. You need five pages at most: home (hero image, latest release, embedded music player), about (bio, photos, press quotes), music (links to streaming platforms and embedded players), shows (upcoming dates with ticket links), and contact (booking email, management email, press enquiries). Every page should have a clear call to action: stream my music, come to my show, sign up for my email list, or get in touch.
Design should reflect your brand. Use the same colour palette, typography, and visual style as your social media and release artwork. High-quality photos are essential — invest in at least one professional photoshoot per year for press and website imagery. If you cannot afford a designer, website builders like Squarespace, Wix, and Bandzoogle offer music-specific templates that look professional with minimal customisation.
