Collaborations and Features: Growing Together
Partner with other artists to cross-pollinate audiences. How to find, approach, and execute great collaborations.
Collaborations are one of the fastest ways to reach new listeners. When two artists work together, each one introduces their audience to the other. This cross-pollination is especially powerful when both artists have similar audience sizes — the exchange is balanced and both parties benefit. A well-chosen collaboration can be more effective than months of solo marketing effort.
Choose collaborators strategically. The best partnerships are between artists whose styles complement each other rather than duplicate. A rapper and a singer, a producer and a vocalist, two artists from adjacent genres — these combinations create something neither could make alone and appeal to both fanbases. Look for artists at a similar career stage with engaged audiences. A collaboration where one party has 500 followers and the other has 500,000 rarely benefits both equally.
Approach potential collaborators professionally. Follow them on social media, engage with their content genuinely, and build a relationship before you pitch a collaboration. When you reach out, be specific about what you envision: what kind of track, what the concept is, and what you bring to the table. Send examples of your best work. Make it easy for them to say yes by being clear, respectful, and low-pressure.
